So suffice it to say that I’m pretty stoked about seeing it.Īpparently, there are other Hamilton watches in The Martian worn by a few other characters. Survivalist genre movies and shows are really popular, and in the scope of that category (without the addition of zombies), The Martian is an excellent “plausible” tale of near future survival on the planet Mars. So much of the plot in the book version of The Martian is Watney just trying to survive by using his wits, materials around him, and some super brilliant problem solving skills. Coincidentally, Hamilton watches play a pretty major role in the movie Interstellar. This is like the movie Interstellar, if an actual astronaut wrote it. The real enemies for our hero are the cold realities of space, science, and the laws of physics. There aren’t aliens or supernatural creatures. Basically, it’s Robinson Crusoe in space… on Mars (with, of course, all of Earth rallying for the rescue of one dude). If you aren’t familiar with the plot of The Martian, let me explain it to you. I hope that Matt Damon’s Mark Watney character wears the Hamilton Khaki Navy BelowZero (a bit better like that, right?) watch while trying to survive on Mars. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA 2826 automatic movement. This reference H78585333 all black “phantom” version comes in 46mm-wide steel case with a rotating diver’s bezel. As a diving watch, the Hamilton Below Zero (sorry, I just can’t keep writing “BeLOWZERO…” I don’t want to “be a lowzero!”) is water resistant to 1000 meters (with a helium escape valve and 5.6mm-thick sapphire crystal) and should probably handle the depths of space pretty well. It was actually a clever choice for the producers to pick, even if Hamilton probably wanted them to choose a newer model. The Hamilton Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO does tend to fit the interesting aesthetics of the movie, its gear, vehicles, and structures. With that said, it is still up to the movie makers what watches to use – and sometimes they just ask watch makers they work with (like Hamilton) to create something unique. You see, Hamilton has a nice reputation among movie makers as a friendly watch brand to work with. I am pretty sure it wasn’t Hamilton’s idea to include such an old model, but rather the wishes of The Martian‘s producers. Those who know watches will probably be asking themselves “isn’t that a relatively old (though modern) Hamilton watch?” That’s true, actually, as the Hamilton Khaki Navy Below Zero (as it was more logically called back then – what exactly does “BeLOWZERO” mean, exactly?) was originally released in around 2008 ( check our aBlogtoWatch article on the Hamilton Khaki Navy Below Zero watch here from years back).

Click the “Replace” button to make the change. Here, it’s found our next italicised word. Hit the “Find Next” button to have Word locate and highlight the next occurrence of whatever you’re searching for. Notice how that says “Not Bold” and “Not Italic.” You can’t use this technique to change from one type of formatting to another-just to add or remove formatting.Īt any rate, now you’re ready to search. When you’re done, you’ll see that formatting appear under the “Replace With” box. Now place your insertion point in the “Replace With” box, head back Format > Font, and this time choose the “Regular” option. For example, say you set specific paragraphs to be aligned to the left and have a particular indentation, and now you want to remove that indentation and center align those paragraphs. You’ve used a particular paragraph formatting (alignment, indentation, spacing, and so on) and you want to change that. For example, say you repeat the phrase “Little Red Riding Hood” throughout your document, and you’ve now decided you’d like that phrase to use a different font and red text. You have a particular word or phrase to which you want to apply (or change) character formatting. For example, say you used italics for emphasis, and now you want to remove that formatting. You’ve used one type of character formatting throughout your document and want to change it to another type of formatting. Here are a few examples when it might be useful: You can use Find and Replace to search for and change both character and paragraph formatting. However, there are times when Find and Replace can help you save time by applying formatting changes faster and easier than manual formatting. If you need to control what gets changed and what doesn’t more precisely, you might be better off going through your document and making those changes by hand. For example, if you need to change the color of all text or remove all instances of bold text in your document, you can do this by selecting all (Ctrl+A) and then applying the change you want. Sometimes, it makes sense to apply formatting changes manually. There are many ways to use Find and Replace for formatting, but when should you consider using Find and Replace instead of applying manual formatting changes or using other options like the Format Painter? When Is Finding and Replacing Formatting Useful? You can also use Find and Replace to locate specific types of formatting throughout your document and even replace that formatting with something else. Microsoft Word’s Find and Replace feature isn’t just for replacing text.
